Cyclone Anaya’s Halloween Costume Contest
Judging 10 pm, Cyclone Anayas, 3211 Oak Lawn Ave
We can’t think of a better Halloween combination than creative costumes and margaritas. Sit back and watch your friends and strangers make fools of themselves—or join in the madness. First prize wins a $300 Cyclone Anaya’s gift card, second prize is a $200 gift card, and third prize is a $100 gift card. Just think of all the margs you could buy with your winnings.
Fright Fete
9 PM- 1 AM, Fashion Industry Gallery, 1807 Ross Ave.
If you’re the kind of person who turns your nose up at the idea of a sheet as a Halloween costume or orange beer, the Fright Fete is going to be much more your speed. Lite Dallas transforms the Fashion Industry Gallery into a spooky but spectacular place to hang out, plus there’s a “ghoulishly glam” Halloween costume contest (the other option: black cocktail attire), food from Food Glorious Food, drinks from Bacardi, and music from the Phonophreaks.
There’s No Place Like ’Za: Hotel ZaZa Halloween Costume Contest

State and Allen’s Annual Halloween Party
9 PM, State and Allen Lounge, 2400 Allen St
If you are in the mood for over-the-top costumes and a view of Uptown’s finest, check out State and Allen’s Halloween party. Halloween-themed Bacardi drink specials give you the liquid courage you need to enter the costume contest at midnight. If you like to people watch, last year’s patio had “an amazing view of all the broken-winged fairies and angels as well as the one-shoed nurses and school girls roaming the streets looking for where they parked the car,” according to State and Allen’s blog. Awesome.
Nightmare on Elm Street at Thrive
9 PM, Thrive Nightclub, 1015 Elm Street in the Crowne Plaza
We love Mario Lopez. He was such a cutie on Saved by the Bell, and those dimples still melt our hearts. And have you seen him on the new season of Nip/Tuck? Hello, hottie. If we still had a locker, his poster would be hanging in it. But because we don’t, we'll celebrate Halloween with him. While we stalk Mario (in our Kelly Kapowski costume, of course), we'll be dancing to resident DJs Joe Ramirez, Joe Vega, and Jammin Joe. $20 cover

Why? Because it’s new and it’s super cool. Head to the swanky spot in Mockingbird Station for pre-Halloween festivities and beats by DJ Flip. P.s. There’s also a private masquerade party in the “soft lounge.” Entrance granted with secret password. Sorry, we don’t know it. Might have to do a little flirting with the bartender to figure that one out.
Wicked Masquerade Ball
10 PM, AMPM Lounge, 300 N. Akard St.,
If swanky nightclubs and bottle service are your thing, check out the Wicked Masquerade Ball at AMPM. As if we needed another reason to buy that sexy Halloween costume, the sexiest costume wins a weekend trip for two to the Mirage hotel in Vegas. The best costume takes home $1,000. It sounds like we have 1,000 reasons to make an appearance. Tickets are $15 in advance (at any Spirit Halloween store) and $25 at the door; $50 for VIP.
HORROR REMIX!
10 PM, Studio Movie Grill, 5405 Beltline Rd. Addison
When it comes to horror films, give me gut-puking over good plots any night of the week. Studio Movie Grill is addressing this condition that in the past has slowed countless horror films to near crawls. In fact, they're cutting straight to the chase. What better way to prep for Halloween than to remix two zombie classics, The Video Dead (traditionally 94 minutes) and FleshEater (traditionally 88 minutes), into two hours of squeamishly good, free fun!!!
COSTUMED BACKSPIN! WHAT????
10 PM, Lotus, 2900 McKinney Ave.
Lotus, which does awesome backspins of 80's and 90's music on friday nights is offering something much more fun this week, and thats COSTUME PARTY! Yeah yeah, every club everywhere is looking to have fun dancing to Madonna, The Clash, Cyndi Lauper, and the Backstreet Boys! Come out to Lotus, it's awesome!
Peaches?! and The Butthole Surfers?! OMG AWESOME!
7 PM, Granada Theatre, 3524 Greenville Ave
Oh yeah, it's an 80's reunion tour line up! It's amazing and awesome, it's the Butthole Surfers and Peaches. WOW! And you know, here's an even better thing, it's cheap cheap cheap! Make the treck to Greenville Ave, grab some grub at the Blue Goose, and enjoy some awesome 80's grunge!
Chucky Sly, Shabazz 3, 7Even Thirty, Skipp Coon, Young Jim
10 PM, Liquid Lounge, 2800 Main St.
It's appropriate that Chucky Sly's long-awaited debut album is titled The Unseen Mechanism--the local MC has excelled under the radar for much more than a decade and a half. He moved here in 1991 from Germany, but since, he's consistently operated with the singular task of creating exceptional music. It all amounts to an image that may not immediately come to mind if someone told you to imagine a "veteran Dallas rapper." But Sly's musical tastes also lean toward the same diversity found in his reading habits. "Right now I'm listening to 90 percent hard bop jazz," he quickly announces when the topic of music is finally breached. As hardcore a fan of hip-hop as they come, many of Sly's sonic selections are funk and soul, though he's quick to point out that harder-rocking bands like Wolfmother have made their way into his rotation as of late. Featured tonight with Shabazz 3, 7even Thirty, Skipp Coon, and Young Jim, for $12, you can get one amazing night of local rap!
BRAND NEW AT THE PALLADIUM
8 PM, Palladium Ballroom, 1135 S. Lamar
Formed in 2000, Brand New is bringing it's awesome mix of New York Alternative Rock to the Palladium tonight. Also, the Loft is hosting Gilda's Club is hosting Rock the Red door for cancer support. Featuring the Spazmatics, tickets for the Loft are $75 and that includes 2 drink tickets.
HIT THE LIGHTS AT THE DOOR!

This is a Caity Event, I will be there, along with $25 mojito pitchers, $6 flavored mojitos by the glass, and $150 bottle specials all night!

MUTE? NO WAY, MUTEMATH!
8 PM, Palladium Ballroom, 1135 South Lamar
The members of MUTEMATH had reached their breaking point. Collectively gathered on the front porch of their New Orleans home-studio where they were struggling to record the follow up to their 2006 critically-acclaimed Teleprompt/Warner Bros. debut, the quartet screamed at each other with the full weight of the accumulated frustrations that had escalated from weeks of fighting. To heighten the tension, a lawn mower droning in the background drowned out their voices, inciting them to yell even louder in misguided efforts to be heard. So don't force them to lose out on their ongoing battle against their vocal chords and check them out at the Palladium tonight!!!! $22-$27

Whoo? whoo? OWL CITY THAT'S WHO!!!
8 PM, House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar
There are many reasons to dislike Owl City, the electro tweepop project spearheaded by Owatonna, Minnesota's 23-year-old Adam Young. For one thing? The moniker is horrible. You can name yourself after a town or a continent--say, Boston or Chicago or Europe--but you can't name yourself after a city with the word "City" in the title. That's why there are no bands named "New York City" or "Oklahoma City." The fact that it's a pretend city makes it worse. So come on out and check out this Postal Service Rip Off Band for yourself!!!! Seriously, pop onto Pandora.com and check out Owl City's ''Vanilla Twilight''!

Now, as for this weekend, there's tons of concerts, food, shopping, just lots and lots of fun!
CHECK IT OUT!
COILLAT? DAY? OH YAY!
8:30 PM, Palladium Ballroom/The Loft, 1135 S. Lamar St.
Okay, so a pretty sharp contrast to the type of music I generally listen to, but still amazing! Colbie Caillat, with her folksy, chill tunage and Howie Day, of "Collide" fame, collaborate tonight for a fun filled concert at the Palladium, which, believe it or not, they still have tickets for!
Naptime? Shake? Put those TOGETHER!
9 pm, Bryan St. Tavern, 4315 Bryan St
So, they're local...So they're indie, but this Wilco Inspired Band, the Naptime Shake, will provide you with some chillax music at the Bryan St. Tavern tonight. This awesome venue is featuring $2 Domestic Bottles and $3 shots tonight, not to mention their delicious pizza!
The Grape+37 years=$37(per person) Nommage
All weekend, The Grape, 2808 Greenville Ave
Yum! The Grape, the greatest restaurant on Greenville Ave, is celebrating 37 years of service by offering a 3 course dinner for you and your sweetie (or best friend, or mom, or whoever) with a wine pairing. For only $37 (+$13 for Wine), you can dine on delicious yummies created daily by their amazing kitchen staff and head chef!
SENSES FAILED? NO, YOUR SENSES FAIL!
8 PM, The Granada Theatre, 3524 Greenville Ave
Listening to a new Senses Fail album is a lot like reconnecting with an old friend-although there's a comforting, indefinable familiarity within all of the New Jersey-based post-hardcore quintet's records, each new creation is a fleeting snapshot of the lives of its makers, indelibly capturing the things that meant the most during your mutual time apart. So grab some dinner at Blue Goose, or Blue Fish (why is everything on GREENville named BLUE?), and head over to shell out the $$$ for the ticket, and you'll have a blast with these guys and Skylit Drive, Closure in Moscow, Fact, and many many more!
8 point, 12 point? No, KING BUCK (S)!
10 pm, Barley House, 5612 Yale Blvd
MORE on the Local music Scene, my good buddy Kieth Killoren and his band, The King Bucks, will be headlined at the Barley House tonight. So get out your best SMU gear, make your way over to the dive bars near Yale Ave (Ozonas, Home Bar, Milo Butterfingers) and enjoy this TOTALLY FREE concert with a pint.
So, the theme for this weekend seems to be HAUNTED HOUSES!
Seriously guys, Thrillvania, the Dallas Scaregrounds, and the Cutting Edge in Ft. Worth are all offering awesome rates for awesome haunts.
For my money, and my heart popping out of my chest, I think I would totally do Thrillvania!
Thrillvania, located in Terrell, is one of 2 attracting in the US that has ben featured on the Travel channel's "America's Scariest Haunted Attractions" and has been selected as one of the top haunted houses in the nation. For $30, you can enjoy 8 attractions including Verdun Manor, Voodoo Manor, Granny Lupus's Seance Theatre, Maze of Chaos, Thorn Hall, Six Feet Blunder, Cassandras Labyrinth of Terror, and Dr. Lyacan's Trail of Torment. It may be a 30 mile drive, but it would be totally worth it.

Now, I've also got an awesome maids service and an awesome dry cleaning service up and running for you guys! I really hope you guys come see me and let me know of anything you need!!!!
NOW for some fun this thursday!
SEE THAT BOY, HE LOOKS SO FINE!
10 PM, Trees, 2709 Elm St
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, oh yeah, Remember 80's grunge girl bands? I sure do! I love them, hence why I'm SO EXCITED ABOUT THE DONNAS playing tonight at Trees! So if you enjoyed the Electrodes, Hole, Superchick, Glitter Mini 9, and Damone, you'll love this show. For only $17 and a convienient Green Line Ride down to this Deep Ellum Love Spot, you'll have more than a blast!

UNLEASH YOUR SINGLEDOM!
7-9 PM, Unleashed, 5152 Samuell Blvd.
Okay, seriously boys, the top two things you need to pick up a woman who's NOT after your money is (1) Having a cute doggie or (2) having a cute baby (preferably a cousin, neice/nephew, or even a much much younger sibling). And with all this rain we've been having here in the big D, your dog must be itching to get off the leash and make new friends. Here's a way for both of you guys to do it! Come out to Unleashed, Dallas's premier indoor dog park. You can grab a cup of joe and talk up the cute brunett with the wiener dog/blonde with a maltipoo/redhead with a puggle!

Barlow at Good? Then the Granada?
6-7 pm, Good Records and the Granada Theatre, Greenville Ave.
Soooo, the hardest thing in music now a days is indie, especially in Dallas. But if you have the misfortune of being leashed to this Amazing City and being a musician, you can totally take sympathy with Lou Barlow. The man is amazing and he's having a great FREE live acoustic set tonight at Good Records on Lowest Greenville (1808 Greenville Ave) before gearing up for his performance at the Granada Theatre (3524 Greenville Ave) with The MissingMen/Dinosaur Jr! Come rock out!
Didn't you LOVE ME?! FASTER THAN THE DEVIL!
9pm, House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St.
Okay, if you know that famous chorus line, then you don't even need me to mention who I'm talking about. But for those of you who've been, I don't know, LIVING UNDER A ROCK for the past decade, then you should know OAR is playing tonight at the House of Blues. Cheap tickets, expensive booze=one HELL of a time...and yes, that is one of my images from thier HOB show in February. hahah!

Barefoot? Are you Nuts? No, you're the Belmont!
8 pm, Rock House Films, 3006 Cole Avenue in Uptown.
Yes yes, we know it's been cold and rainy and gross, hence why this has been moved INDOORS. The Belmont Hotel is proud to present it's weekly musical showcase tonight at Rock House Films right down Cole Ave! For $20 you can hear local act Ian McLagan!!!
Wine? Chocolate! It's a Swirlly Dream!
7 pm, Swirll Winery, 1311 Main St.
Considering how much wine we drink, we should’ve known that it’s Texas Wine Month. Then again, we may have known, but forgot due to too much wine drinking. Swirll Winery has been honoring the month with a lineup of events, including chocolate and wine pairings. Dude, Sweet! Chocolate and Wine Tasting. Tonight, sample mouth-watering chocolates from Dude, Sweet! with Swirll wines for only $15. Reservations required.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soo Yeah, besides all this, we've still got great sales and stuff going on all over the West Village. Mei Mei's Fashionette is offering like 50% off of all Tees, and trust me THEY'RE REALLY CUTE! Envy is offering 50-70% off of so much stuff, it's unreal. Lastly, we cannot forget CUTE CHOLE at L.Bartlett and their amazing deals on shirts, dresses, shoes, you name it!
So I've been thumbing through local Dallas Publications like a Crazy person, and I've found that there is indeed much much more to this city than Neimans, the Gap, JCPenny, and the Dump. I've found so many awesome local joints to get everythign under the sun. I can't wait to pay some bills and actually be able to get things I need for my new place.
Again and Again Furniture (http://www.againandagain.com/) offers some of the best deals on vintage and retro furniture, and as of now, they're offering 20-40% OFF OF SOME OF THEIR STOCK! I've got my eyes on a desk and a set of night stands there. More than anything I would hate for my apartment to look like something straight out of an Ikea catalog. I want my place to express me, and as of right now, I have my vintage coffee shop kitchen and my location location location living room. I just need something for my lap top.
The thing of it is, I can totally understand why people would want to go places like Ikea and Target and Rooms to go for their furnishings. It's easy, it's cheap, and it gets the job done and it looks awesome. I just march to the beat of my own drummer, and rather than pay $100 for a Lichslagger onyx desk at Ikea, I'd rather get a 1965 series cherry wood antiqued typing desk with handcarved accents for $250. It's a piece I know I could truely make mine and I could love forever and ever.
Also, there's this totally awesome deep ellum clothing studio, Make. This place offers design classes, shows off some amazing local artists and designers, and allows you to support local EVERYTHING! You totally need to swing out to 2632 Thomas Ave wed-sat afternoons. It's AMAZING.
well, that's it for me tonight, kids, I've got to prep for this concert. DONNAS ROCK!
Omg, this city is amazing!
Look for my images of the Donnas at www.dallasobserver.com !!!!
